How long will an awning last?

The fabrics that are used today typically come with a 5 year warranty. However, with proper care and maintenance, most will last much longer. The exposure that your awning receives from the elements will also affect its longevity. The galvanized steel frames that we use to create our custom residential and commercial awnings are guaranteed to last a lifetime.

What colors of awnings are available?

When you choose a fabric awning, there are more than 500 variations of solid and striped colors to choose from. Speak with one of our knowledgeable customer service agents for more information on all of the options available with our custom fabric and aluminum awnings.

Does the color affect the function of the awning?

In most cases, darker fabric awnings will provide a darker shade underneath. However, some fabrics have a lighter color on the underside compared to the topside color, providing an aesthetically pleasing effect. With regard to the effect of color with regard to temperature, while color choice will naturally have some impact, in most cases it is the type of fabric that is chose and the ventilation of the design that will have the most effect.

Will an awning keep me dry in wet weather?

Most of the fabrics that are used to create today’s awnings are considered to be water-repellent – not water-proof. They are designed to allow rain to quickly flow off of the material to keep it away from anything that is underneath the awning – even you. This allows you to enjoy your outdoor space even in inclement weather.

When should I remove my custom awning?

It is recommended for residential clients to remove fabric awnings in the winter months, as they are not designed to stand up to ice or heavy snow during the season. However, custom aluminum awnings are often able to withstand the punishing conditions of winter. Speak with our team for a free project estimate and consultation on the recommended use of our custom awnings in Southeastern Massachusetts year-round.

How durable is the support frame of my new awning?

All of the metal support frames that are custom designed by American Awning & Window are made from a high quality, long-lasting galvanized steel (does not rust). They are guaranteed to last a lifetime. An annual inspection of all connections and fasteners, as well as the overall condition of the metal itself, should be conducted and regular maintenance and care is recommended.

Many of the materials used to create fabric awnings come with a guarantee. The industry standard is approximately one percent or less within five years, however some may guarantee the color for up to eight years.
