Mounting a retractable awning on this roof was a challenge, but not impossible. The problem stemmed from the smaller roof covering this bay window. It was both at a different pitch and extended farther out than the main roof behind it. To compound problems, the farther back up the roof we put the awning, the more projection the customer would lose to extend out over their massive deck.
The solution was to mount the roof brackets on top of custom risers so that the arms of the awning when retracting in or extending out would clear the roof over the bay window. With a few calculations the blocks of wood for the risers were cut, the roof rafters were located to mount to, and this awning was up in no time.
Our customer had two other awning companies out to look at their situation and neither came up with a solution. Looks like for her, third time was the charm!
